Representing present and near future, the hunkered down Great Blue Heron suffering in a cold, gray bleak icy environment clearly represents what most of us in Delaware feel like right now. BUT!!! Egrets have returned to Delaware marshes as early as mid March. Two to three weeks from now our coastal area will see the beginnings of summer wading birds like this preening Snowy Egret. I find that the relaxing reflected image of the egret brings me optimism. Better times are coming.
