I took this photo of a red-banded hairstreak several years ago in my yard. I have seen very few butterflies of any sort this summer and I don’t recall seeing hairstreaks here in years. Makes me wonder where they have gone or what has changed in their habitat that has diminished their populations or reduced the attractiveness of the area they used to live in. In any event, it’s a beautiful butterfly and one I miss seeing in the yard.
