Surf Scoters regularly winter-over along the eastern seaboard from Newfoundland to South Carolina. Often, there are large rafts of them around Indian River Inlet in the winter, which is where I took this photo. They move as a group and I was lucky to get this shot as the signal went out to jump up and relocate. It is literally Scoters scooting. They did not jump up due to anything I did. I used a long lens and was pretty far away from them.
