I hadn’t seen Ibises in the marsh behind my house for weeks until yesterday morning. A totally chance moment turned into a very good photo op. I happened to look out a back window and saw a very large flock of Ibises in an open water patch in the marsh, an area quite close to the edge of my woods. I grabbed my camera, with telephoto lens attached, and walked quietly down to a vantage point pretty close to where they were. They took no notice of me standing slightly shielded by a stand of phragmites reeds. There was quite a bit of chatter among them. I saw a few birds flying in at first but the mood of the flock soon changed as I began to see several individuals picking up and flying off to the left. I sensed something was about to happen with the flock and, sure enough, they ALL somehow simultaneously jumped up, all heading to the left. Pretty sight. I wondered what had spooked them but watching them further out in the marsh over the next 20 minutes or so it was their behavior of the morning. Settle in, sit for a bit then jump up and relocate.
