Narcissus

May 17, 2024

If you had to learn about Greek mythology in school as I did, you may remember the tale of Narcissus who was a mortal son of the gods. He was reputed to be very handsome and attractive to all, quite like egrets.  In the case of Narcissus he discovered his refection in a pool of water and was so taken with his image that it led to his death.  Now this Great Egret, on the other hand, found its image reflected in still water and despite seeing its great beauty was not captivated by it.  After I took this picture the egret moved on as if saying, ‘Eh, that bird looking back at me is not a threat. See ya’.
