January 27, 2008

It snowed about an inch here in eastern Sussex County, DE last Thursday.  Nearly all of that is gone by today but I found some snow patches this morning in the woods.  The melting snow revealed some of the plants that stay green in the winter, lichen and moss for example. The dark color of an acorn that was buried by the snow allowed the sun to melt the snow cover over it more quickly than the area around it.
