I photograph wildlife and landscapes in nature, with, really, an equal love for both. When photographing wildlife my eye looks for art in beauty and interesting behavior that tells a story through the photos. A large flock of wading birds consisting of a mix of Great and Snowy Egrets as well as mature and immature White Ibis has been working the marsh behind my house several afternoons recently. They are not there every day and they move around quite a bit fishing little tidal pools one at a time. This afternoon a mixed group was pretty close to my woods so I spent about an hour with long lensed camera on a tripod shooting the action. These five photos show an aggressive moment between two Great Egrets, the story of exercising dominance over a limited food supply, I suppose. In any event, I like the beauty (art) of the ‘dance’ in the story. Note the water dripping off of the curled claws of the leading bird in the last photo.
