Thirteen years ago there was an irruption of Snowy Owls here on Delmarva. They were seen on beaches and dunes throughout the Mid-Atlantic states, and probably even wider spread than that. My friend and colleague at DNREC, Keith Betts, worked enforcement at Cape Henlopen State Park and he told me about a snowy that routinely liked to perch on top of tall dunes there. I was able to photograph it roosting on a dune as well as just as it took flight. A rare and delightful moment and one I was very happy to shoot.
