The Cornell University website All About Birds describes Canvasback ducks this way: “Often called the aristocrat of ducks, the Canvasback holds its long sloping forehead high with a distinguished look.” I was lucky to capture a male Canvasback stretching his wings and shaking water off following a dive for food. The Lesser Scaup in the background appears to be admiring Mr. Aristocrat but in reality may be just wary of the flapper taking up a lot of space in front of it.
